2 years

Is he 2 already?  Where has the time gone?  I have blinked my eyes, and two whole years have past--but they have been the best two years I could ever imagine.  Bo and I often wonder what we did with all of our free time before Garrett, and nothing even compares to the entertainment we get from this little guy!

At 2, he knows what he wants, doesn't want.  He has a temper like his daddy, the patience of his mama, and an attitude all his own!

A few months ago I was beginning to wonder if he would ever start talking.  Since day 1 I have read "What to expect..", and I always read a few months in advance--which in this case was not a good thing.  About 4 months ago I read up to 23 months, and one of the things that your 23 month old SHOULD be able to do was say 50 words!!  I immediately closed the book and thought there is NO way this will ever happen because Garrett barely said 4 words.  I then decided the people who wrote this book obviously had no idea what a 23 month old SHOULD be able to do (I guessed they had never had a 23 month old).  Oh, but let me tell you--about 2 weeks before 23 months, this child was picking up new words everyday--and I kept count just to see if he knew 50 words at 23 months.  And he did, and I was wrong! I'll put them in their own post.  So a month later, he talks ALL the TIME---sometimes he even answers with a whole paragraph. The only drawback is that it is not in English :)

He likes LOVES...

  • riding the 4-wheeler
  • to be outside--no matter how hot or humid
  • toothpaste, every toothbrush must have toothpaste on it.
  • a working cell phone--He's so smart he can find his games (Ben, choo choo, and Peek a boo barn) on our iphone all by himself.
  • trains- he will only watch choo choos on the DVD in the car.  If anything else is in the player, he will worry you to death until you change it.
  • candy and juice- I think he may have my sweet tooth.
  • Corn on the cob
  • Cheese (Mac n Cheese)
  • Milk
  • salad-lettuce, cheese, bacon bits, ranch
  • jumping off the diving board
  • church
  • lawn equipment--weed eaters, blowers, edgers, lawn mowers--and he wants them running

  • gas- He points out every gas station that we pass, and wants us to stop.  He also knows that all the lawn equipment uses gas.  Sometimes they are out of gas and won't run.
  • Maggie
  • fruit--favorites are blueberries and bananas

He likes...
  • to do things on his own- He likes to take his own straw out of the wrapper and put it in his drink with NO help.
  • to walk Belle with no help
  • Nanny's vegetables--peas and cornbread
  • Nap time
  • to have a sound machine on when he sleeps
  • swimming
  • to have every stuffed animal we own in his bed--There is barely room for him.

  • to type--He sends his Daddy all sorts of text messages.
  • to help cook

He doesn't like...

  • for us to brush his teeth
  • bedtime
  • Dr.'s visits
  • sitting in a dental chair

A few things he can do at 2:

knows the colors orange, blue, and green--and sometimes red.
knows the difference between-- on/off, in/out, and hot/cold
can take off his sock, shoes, and shirt by himself
identify lots of items by pointing and naming, ball, cow, puppy, monkey, etc.
build a tower of at least 4 cubes
throw a ball
jump up
turn a flip
put on his on shoes, and most of the time on the correct foot
has started going to the potty some
follow a command without gestures--he's great at going to get a diaper and his pajamas!
drink out of a water bottle or cup

At his 2 year checkup, he weighed 27 lbs (50th percentile) and was 35.25 inches tall (75th percentile).
